First, realize that nothing you can do will be enough.
Sin is too serious, and God is too holy.
Mercy cannot rob justice, so Jesus paid the full penalty of justice in your place upon the cross.
Because of that payment, Jesus has authority to forgive all your sins.
The word "repent" means to turn.
You must turn from self-reliance which always results in failure and more sin, to trust in the finished work of Jesus to pay for everything. That will mean that no credit goes to you. All of it goes to Him.
Choose this day to trust in the blood of His cross forever, and His promise of the forgiveness of sins is yours.
No mistake you make, nor bishop, nor burning bosom can take away what the Most High God gives you by a promise. That promise depends upon Jesus, not upon you.
Ironically, it is the "no strings" love of Jesus that will cause the most powerful works of gratitude to flow from you in response thereafter.
The Most High God is offering you forgiveness as an undeserved gift.
Do you have enough faith to say, "Yes," and mean it?
If you do, the adventure begins!
